A case for the elegance of a shirt dress

I recently came across someone’s comment, stating that shirt dresses and elegance don’t go together. I was flabbergasted!
To me, a shirt dress can be the epitome of elegance, not to mention that it’s a truly versatile piece. Of course, the elegance factor depends on style, fabric, and cut. But to say that shirt dresses aren’t elegant is untrue, and I am here to prove it.
I’ve said it many times — I am a huge fan of shirt dresses, and have quite a few of them in my closet, in various styles and fabrics. One of my most recent purchases is this shirtdress that doesn’t get more classic, and yes, it is elegant and versatile.
In my opinion, shirt dresses are the easiest way to dress elegantly, and I wanted to exemplify by choosing a fairly basic poplin shirt dress and styling it for three occasions. Note, however, that the ways to wear it can be endless, as this shirt dress is something you can also easily wear to the office with various shoes, belts, blazers, or sweaters, etc., to change the look as needed. I also like this mini version of it in a linen-blend.
To exemplify, here are the three occasions I’d wear this shirt dress and how I’d style it:
as a cover-up at the beach or the pool.
I would roll the sleeves up to the elbows and wear it open over a swimsuit and shoes of choice (preferably slide sandals to easily put on or remove — items linked below). Don’t forget the hat and sunglasses (and sunscreen, of course!).
In the evening, add a statement necklace, a belt, and chic sandals for dinner.
I would slightly roll up the sleeves for an easy-going, yet elegant style, add a clutch, and a cuff bracelet for something extra. More details linked below.
The next day, throw a sweater over your shirt dress and head to the farmer’s market.
