May at a glance...
B-day nachos, b-day focaccia, a Kimono exhibition, a rediscovered hobby, and more.
So long May…
WHAT I/WE DID
It’s tough wrapping my head around it being June already. I’m not looking for time to slow down anytime soon, if I’m being perfectly honest, but it also blows my mind that it’s going so fast…
Although looking back, May felt like a long month, and a fairly full one, between celebrating my birthday and other things.
This past month, I rekindled my love for jewelry making (beaded necklaces so far only), but it’s been fun making a few to wear this summer and beyond. Especially as beaded necklaces are so “in” right now.
I also got back to exercising fairly consistently and started very slowly with weights. We’ll see how that goes.
It’s been unbearably hot already, so our “escapades” have been indoors, mostly, and so we managed to explore this Kimono exhibition I’ve been wanting to see since I first heard of it. That’s about it as far as highlights for the month…
MAY BLOG POSTS ROUNDUP
Another month where I’m not too proud to admit I somewhat neglected my blog. Here’s what I published:
5 things that bring me joy this week: the feel-good series. Here’s Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4.
Summer must-have accessories. I think accessories are super important and can transform any look; I shared some fun ones for the season ahead in this post.
A classic yet fun shirt dress. Oh, how I love it!
A case for the elegance of a shirt dress. A random comment on the internet triggered this post, do check it out!
Structured dresses, aka my very favorite dress style.
April at a glance... The monthly recap.
What I bought
I had better luck this time, haha.
These linen hats in both colors for my husband. He’s happy with them.
This shirt dress, of course! Yep, still happy I got it!
This paneled midi dress. I tried it on in store in white in size 4, but it was too big, and they didn’t have a smaller size, so I didn’t buy it. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, though. I ended up finding it online in black and decided to get it. FYI, the white is sheer, but nothing these can’t fix. Apart from the neckline, it’s fairly similar to this dress in style and fabric, as far as thickness, and yes, I’m happy I bought it — it’s gorgeous!
These leather belts. They’re butter-soft and can be styled a few different ways. Love them!
These leather heels I was eyeing at a different retailer, where they sold out before I could buy them. It was a nice surprise to find them again and for an even lower price! They run TTS!
MY MOST WORN ITEM(s) IN May
Somewhat surprisingly, this shirt dress! While I love white clothing, I have to admit it’s not the most practical. However, I ended up wearing this dress multiple times this past month. It really is great for these hot days we’re experiencing, and again, it’s versatile. What’s not to love?
This bag. No joke — I love it! It’s spacious, stylish, and unique. *Also available here in black only, at a lower price.
And this bag, too. It’s a happy bag, and I like reaching for it to add a little extra dopamine 😉.
WHAT I READ
After wrapping up The Count of Monte Cristo, I didn’t feel like jumping into another book. The last chapters stirred everything in me, and I wanted to live with that for a while… I will say this again and again: this book is a true masterpiece!
What we watched
You. I was ready to have this show wrapped, and the final season did not disappoint. Overall, a great show!
Squid Game. The first two episodes of season 2 were torturously slow and boring, but it makes up for it tenfold later on.
The White Lotus. Yep, I agree, this season was boring.
Ghosts. As delightful as ever! Still one of my all-time favorites!
The Count of Monte Cristo. Where do I begin with this? I have mixed feelings about it as I love (and I mean, love) the novel. The show is not very truthful to it, but I can’t say I hated it. Sam Claflin is phenomenal, although I think he somewhat failed at expressing the true depth of the Count of Monte Cristo. It’s hard to capture everything in the book, as there really is a lot. It also didn’t help that I was (re)reading the book as we were watching the show. I will say, though, the last episode is gut-wrenching and I’m still thinking about it. Definitely worth watching!
Fountain of Youth. Without giving any spoilers, we enjoyed it.
Death of a Unicorn. It was silly and fairly disappointing.
SONG OF THE MONTH
This song again, but I love working out to it (I rarely listen to music otherwise)…
WHAT CAUGHT MY EYE ON THE INTERNET
These vintage-inspired platform slides stole my heart. They’re so cool!
This linen-blend halter dress is great for summer. And it has pockets!
This dress is another cutie for summer.
These daisy and pearl earrings are adorable!
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale trailer is here, and I’m excited! I still have some catching up to do, as I haven’t watched the Downton Abbey: A New Era movie yet.
The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas - So You Haven't Read.
The 9 Most Misunderstood Novels of All Time. Do you agree? I have to admit I have yet to read some of these…
Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? A scientist reveals which is more hygienic. Night for me, please. I can’t fathom taking my day with me to bed… What about you?
Thank you, May. June, please bring joy!
