A classic yet fun shirt dress
Ads definitely work, because that’s how I ended up with this shirt dress I would not have found otherwise. And yes, of course, it was the trumpet style, or extra-flare, if you will, that got me! I couldn’t stop thinking about it!
After going back and forth on which color to get, I ended up on white — I figured it would be much more versatile (for me, at least). I was so excited to receive it!
Now that I’ve worn this shirt dress twice already in the week I received it, I have no regrets about buying it — it’s so fun! Plus, it has great movement and is comfortable! And to add to a point I recently made, it’s also elegant!
This shirt dress is made of the perfect lightweight cotton — breezy and cooling for the summer. Because it’s unlined, the white one is sheer — I recommend wearing it with skin-colored undergarments, and some sort of slip (I wore these exact shorts that I’m really happy with; choose your normal size. As far as fit, it runs a tad large; if you’re in between sizes, go with the smaller one (I did and still have plenty of room). However, keep in mind that the fabric has no stretch, so choose the size based on your comfort level.
Another thing to note is that the top buttons are functional, while the ones below the waist are decorative only.
A concern I always see in comments is about the creasing, especially on a dress with so much fabric… yes, natural fabrics tend to wrinkle, and this shirt dress is no exception. I washed it and sprayed it with this dewrinkling spray after, and it did not need to be ironed or steam-ironed. Of course, if you prefer that crips material, ironing/steaming is your best bet, and yes, that is no easy feat with this particular dress. Just another thing to keep in mind!
Some of the reviews complain about the buttonholes being too small. That isn’t the case; you just have to perfectly align them to open/close.
I like this shirt dress so much that I briefly thought of getting it in the other color available. I still haven’t made up my mind, but I do know this shirt dress is another classic I’ll have and wear year after year! There are so many ways it can be styled and so many places it can be worn.
