I don’t know about you, but over here, we’re already well into that “oppressive” summer weather. The humidity is back, the temperatures are barely ever under 90 degrees, and the sun is scorching. Yep, my least favorite time ever, aka, summer in Florida is here.

Although it is not comfortable out there by any means, it doesn’t mean that you have to give up on looking put-together. It still baffles me how people wear tight clothing (aka, athleisure), and even jeans in the dead heat and humidity of the summer here, but I digress.

Here are a few of my tips for surviving the summer heat in style:

Wear natural fabrics.

Linen is my favorite fabric for the summer — I actually prefer it instead of cotton. Linen is a breathable and sustainable fabric that keeps us cool and dry, making it the comfortable choice for summer. My love for linen has even rubbed onto my husband as he’s now on a mission to change his shirts (which are made of cotton) to linen — he firmly states that they are much more comfortable (he’s not a lover of t-shirts either).

Wear prints.

Here’s a secret: prints are a way better choice for hiding the unpleasant and inevitable reality of the summer heat — sweat stains.

Avoid wearing solid colors, especially darker ones.

Wearing solid colors on hot days is like wearing a magnifying glass — every little sweat stain will stand out immediately, and I can assure you — that’s one ugly look on anyone.

Choose polyester — hear me out.

OK, I’m a huge proponent of natural fabrics like linen and cotton, but I will admit that they can get stained and damaged much faster in the summer heat. Whenever I expect to sweat a lot, I wear polyester as it doesn’t stain as easily, or if it does, it can be cleaned without much effort.

Wear “protective” undergarments.

You can wear a bodysuit, a [half] slip, and/or slip shorts to add an extra layer and prevent sweat from protruding from your clothes.

Protect yourself from the sun.

Wear hats (I love this one and this one), apply (and reapply) your sunscreen (on top of your feet too if they’re exposed), and cover up as much as possible if you’re spending time in the sun.
