My orchids finally blooming after two dormant years.

Check the entire “5 things that bring me joy this week” weekly series here, a collection of seemingly insignificant things that serve as a reminder to appreciate the little things — those small joys that make a difference in our day-to-day.

Wow, has summer arrived here in Florida this week! We’re having temperatures in the mid to higher 80s, accompanied by high humidity, and it’s not great! It’s only February, and this is definitely not normal weather for this time of the year.

Weather aside, we’ve still been somewhat busy settling into our new place and organizing the final details, and now that I think we’re finally set, I’m ready to have some fun. Until I figure out a plan in that regard, here are the things that have been bringing me joy this week:

  • my orchids finally opening their buds. After months of developing them (and two years of a dormant state), finally one of my orchids is blooming (pictured), with the others joining any day now. Ah, they bring me so much joy — I love orchids!

  • the hyacinths my husband surprised me with. They’re one of my favorite flowers and their fragrance is something I have to experience each spring. Needless to say that their scent taking over our home sure brings a lot of joy!

  • this lipstick that has a really nice color and keeps my lips moisturized. I have it in “glaring coral”, and it’s been fun “rediscovering” it, aka, pulling it out from a forgotten bag. Don’t you love it when that happens, like finding things you forgot you have?

  • exploring our new neighborhood. Newness always brings joy, right?

  • getting back into regularly making hummus. I enjoy it as lunch or snack with pita bread or veggies like baby carrots, celery sticks, and my very favorite way — with raw tomatoes and cucumbers. It’s so yummy!

What’s bringing YOU joy this week?

xo,

Em
