Olay Regenerist Retinol24 Night Moisturizer review

Olay Regenerist Retinol24 Night Moisturizer review | Blooming Magnolias Blog | Beauty, Skincare, Skincare that works, Affordable skincare, affordable retinol

Olay is a brand that I’ve trusted and used for years, and I see myself continuing to use it for a long time. Generally, I find their products affordable and effective.

As I’ve recently started using retinol, my only complaint with the product I was (and still am) using is that it comes in an oil form, which is not my favorite. Oils don’t absorb into my skin, which makes them less enjoyable for me to use (and messier, of course).

A very important note… When using retinol, something that can’t be overlooked is the need to wear sunscreen. Retinol makes the skin more sensitive to the sun, which can cause it to easily burn and worsen pigmentation — wearing sunscreen can prevent that. I like wearing this mineral one, however, removing it can be tough (I use micellar water for that).

So when Olay added retinol to their Regenerist line, I was excited to try it. Turns out that people either love or hate these products, and I understand both perspectives. As I’ve used the Regenerist Retinol 24 MAX Fragrance-Free Night Hydrating Moisturizer, and the Retinol24 + Peptide Night Moisturizer, I can share my experience with them both. Here it goes…

Regenerist Retinol 24 MAX Fragrance-Free Night Hydrating Moisturizer

By mistake, I’ve picked up the Regenerist Retinol24 Max Fragrance-Free Night Moisturizer, when I meant to get the “regular” one. And I found myself not liking it.

First of all, it made my skin feel oily, and I just couldn’t get rid of that feeling (my skin is oily already). Second, it irritated and caused it to peel. I tried using it nightly, as well as every few days, but the results were always the same. My skin was getting red and peeling, and even itchy, especially in the eye area, even though I was trying to avoid applying it there. This was something new to me as I have not experienced anything like this from my other retinol. Needless to say, using this product was far from enjoyable for me, as I felt like it didn’t really help my skin.

The cream itself has a yellow tint (due to the retinol), and applies easily, having a smooth, yet thick texture. I found that it did help with my fine lines, however, the discomfort was not worth it.

Now, obviously, this moisturizer is intended for more mature skin, and maybe it works differently for that, but my current one didn’t love it.

All this is not to say that this is a bad product, it’s just one that doesn’t work for my skin now. So, thank you… next!

Retinol24 + Peptide NIGHT FACE MOISTURIZER

You’d think that after this experience, I’d be done with Olay’s retinol line. However, I’ve come across a too-good-to-pass sale, so I picked up Retinol24 + Peptide Night Moisturizer this time. And what a difference it made!

This cream comes in a barely-there yellow tint, has a thick, smooth, velvety texture, applies easily, and absorbs quickly. The best part? I’ve experienced no irritation with this product, even when I applied it a few nights in a row (I don’t recommend this unless your skin is used to it). After I use it, my skin feels like velvet to the touch, it makes it look brighter, hydrated, and smoother. I’ve also noticed it fading my hyperpigmentation I’ve been struggling with since moving to Florida.

The bottom line is that I love this cream, and see myself repurchasing and using it over and over!

If you’re looking to start using retinol, I can confidently recommend Regenerist Retinol24 + Peptide Night Moisturizer.

Tip: If this is your first time using retinol, start slow by using it every other night or every 2-3 days until you see how it affects your skin, and give it time to adjust. Use as you please once your skin is comfortable with it, however, I strongly recommend using it at night only, and wearing sunscreen the next day.

I hope this helps.

xoxo,

Em
