Skincare is my number one priority when it comes to beauty. I don't like wearing makeup but I do because I am a bit insecure about my skin and I have dark under-eye circles. However, I wear little foundation or only concealer and powder some days and that's because I try my best to take care of my skin.

I don't spend a lot of money on it or buy fancy products, but I do follow a specific regimen and that seems to be working. Of course, I have days when I fall off-the-wagon and skip some of the steps and that's when I notice a change for the worse.

One step that I do my best to incorporate at least once a week, no matter what is a face mask.

You might have read in this post about my face mask obsession. I have mentioned that I have an extensive "collection" and that I never stop looking for new ones to try.

I have tried so many and kept a lot of them in my rotation, depending on my skin needs, and some I have let go.

One ingredient that I've been looking for in face masks is charcoal. I try to purify/detoxify my skin as often as possible - the air in So Cal is not the best, being full of toxins and dirt that get in the skin. Charcoal is supposed to draw out all impurities, detoxifying it, reducing blemishes and blackheads, among other benefits.

I found this Freeman Detoxifying Charcoal and Black Sugar Mud (in the tube here) and Epielle Black Charcoal Peel-off (Korean) masks about two weeks ago and decided to give them a try. I'm so glad I did! These are amazing! The Epielle peel-off leaves my skin baby-smooth and cleans nicely too - no blackheads or dirty pores left. It hurts a bit though when I peel it off - it sticks like crazy, which makes me extra-careful about putting it on near the eyebrows and hair-line - it will pull hairs out too - yes, it's that strong.

The Freeman mud mask left me speechless and totally in love. I have never tried a mask like this one. It literally pulls out everything from my pores and I can see it doing so while it dries on. I loved the way my skin looked after using it - pores were diminished and my face looked so clean!

These two have earned a permanent place in my beauty routine.
