Hair treatments and conditioners to try now

With the recent events raising stress levels for all of us, our hair, among other things, may be affected as well. Mine certainly has been all over the place lately… Between the traveling, changes in climate and water, as well as the high humidity in Florida, and my lack of proper attention to it, my hair has been more frizzy and easily breakable. So, as we’re spending more time indoors, what best occasion than this to amp up our hair care?

For me, something that I found surprising and left me confused was finding that my hair has been drier in this humid climate. This could be attributed to the fact that, prior to the stay-at-home order, we’ve been spending a lot of time by the ocean, where the salty air and sometimes intense winds have done a number on it.

For the last two months, I have been using this Orchid & White Truffle Moisture Rich Shampoo and the conditioner from the same line. While in the past I have been avoiding hydrating shampoos because I found that they left my hair flat, I have to say that I’m happy with this one. My hair has been more ruly, and overall less frizzy (I know, quite the contrasting statement considering the photo above, which was taken in January). But it’s not enough…

While my shampoo & conditioner, as well as my go-to hairspray, take care of the rest of the flyaways when I use it, the same cannot be said of the hair texture and strength; for that, I turn to hair masks and treatments.

One ingredient I always look for and love is black castor oil, and now it’s a great time to apply that simple treatment described in this blog post (in fact, I’m doing it as I’m writing this post). The key with the pure oil treatment though, is that it has to stay on your hair for a prolonged period of time for it to be effective, and that’s not always convenient. For that reason, I have several other treatments and masks that I love and recommend as quicker options, that still show results, especially with regular use.

I really like the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil line, and have used the conditioner and hair treatments for the last two years, on and off; I have never been disappointed in their products.

When I use these products regularly (at least weekly), I 100% notice new hair growth, so I confidently stand by the conditioner, the anti-breakage spray, the leave-in conditioner, and the treatment masque. I have not used the shampoo, so I can’t speak to that but, even though the consistency of some of these products is on the thicker side, I did not find them weighing my hair or making it greasy -- a big no-no in my book.

I also love the Hask Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner and Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner for quicker fixes; they smell amazing and always help my hair look better.

The last hair treatment that I wanted to share here, and that impressed me is the Nexxus Keraphix Damage Healing Treatment Masque, which I used right after we returned from our trip to Europe, as my hair needed a good detox and some TLC. While this product is not as “clean” as the others shared above, it does a wonderful job of reviving tired and damaged locks.

Again, these are all products I personally use and love. I have to mention that my hair is thin and that I wash it daily and have done so for years. Personally, I don’t like to “take my day” to bed with me, aka the toxins and pollution found in the air, that consequently, end up on our skin and hair; but ultimately, you decide what’s best for you.

As always, be well and stay safe.

Until next time.

xoxo,

Em
