San Diego: Mission Beach

You'll rarely see Mission Beach in San Diego looking this empty. If you do, you either got there at the crack of dawn or went there on a cold rainy day.

We went there in early March on what turned out to be a beautiful day; these photos were snapped between crowds of people enjoying the beautiful weather just like we were.

Mission Beach used to be one of our favorite beaches but it got crowded really fast as it became a huge tourist and local attraction due to Belmont Park's wooden Giant Dipper Roller Coaster and the beautiful parks surrounding it. There are endless crowds here on just about any given day.

When here, we love walking on the Mission Beach Boardwalk which gets super crowded with people, bikers, and skateboarders. What makes it fun for us is admiring the various home designs and vacation rentals aligned one after another along the boardwalk. Of course, the ocean breeze, breathing the ocean air, listening to the waves, and watching the various people only adds to the fun as all in all, these create a very relaxed but lively mood. There is a lot of life happening in Mission Beach.

After walking as far as we like on the boardwalk, we usually walk back through the neighborhoods of Mission Bay which gives completely different views with a peaceful and lazy vibe. This is a less crowded area but, in the summer, just like any beachy neighborhood in San Diego, it gets busy.

One thing that I have been finding interesting about Mission Bay is how much it changes each season; almost every time you come here, you'll see something different.

If you're new to San Diego or just visiting, make sure you add this to your "must-see" list, as it will not disappoint.

Happy exploring!
