A lazy day on the pier & the accessory you need this season

There is something so beautiful and yet mystical about the fog. Being in SoCal I've come to love it and I've found that taking pictures in it makes for some eerie but beautiful photos, especially if there's a bit of sun coming through it.

Last weekend I found myself taking an unintentional break from the grid, reason why there was no new post on here. Even if it wasn't planned, it felt good to disconnect a bit and just enjoy some family time. We had family visiting from out-of-state, so we headed to Oceanside to spend a few days together by the beach. While the weekend was predicted to be sunny and warm, we ended up with a completely different situation.

Our days there were mostly cold, dark and foggy. We go to Oceanside for the beautiful sunsets. All the previous years - we made it a yearly tradition - we've had plenty of amazing ones, but this time we only got to see it once. The other days the sun was simply swallowed by the clouds and the thick fog. But we still have had a few adventures there...

Because of the cold, we found ourselves staying inside mostly, curled up on the sofa, watching scary movies and ghost stories since Halloween was just around the corner.

Speaking of Halloween - I like scary movies and stories, but the truth is that I just can't handle them. After watching "live" ghost stories, once the night came, I was afraid to close my eyes and allow sleep to take me. I stayed awake till I could no longer fight it... only to be awakened by fire alarms sounding at 5am in the hotel we were staying at. Not understanding what was happening at first, and trying to stop the alarm, thinking it was my phone, it finally hit me what was happening. Both me and hubby jumped out of bed, got dressed and went for the exit, along with all the other sleepy and confused faces. Thank God it was nothing serious and we returned back to our room shortly.

But what followed was one lazy day. After we caught up on our sleep, I grabbed my blanket scarf and headed outside for a walk on the pier. I was once again mesmerized by the ocean, the waves and the surfers - I sat there watching them for long minutes, as a child in awe. The waves were so inviting and I really wanted to know how to surf and swim at that moment.

We finally moved along, only to run into pelicans "hanging" on the pier railing. We spent a few good minutes admiring them too. It was obvious they were "locals" and used to the crowds, as many stopped to take photos and admire them too. They were friendly enough; it's true they almost flew in my face once or twice, but they weren't after my face as much as they were after the fish - they were too busy watching the people that were fishing on the pier.

While it was cold out there, my blanket scarf kept me warm, which makes it a must-have accessory for the season ahead. I have linked many above, but I have to say that Target has many great affordable options to explore.
