We’re all aware and reminded of it a lot these days: there is a lot of evil and bad in this world of ours. Reading the news and looking around me sometimes sets a wave of full desperation for my future, the future of humanity and the future of our planet. I don't know why but it’s so much easier for us humans to be negative and focus on the negative than embrace the good in our lives. We’re forgetting that we are lucky: each and everyone of us is lucky in some way. Think about it,
you have food on your table - you're lucky. You have a shelter - you're already lucky. You have someone in your life that makes you happy and supports you - you’re lucky! You’re healthy - you’re the luckiest! It’s the simplest things that we forget about and take for granted but there is so much good in our lives, good that we contributed to one way or another.
We were taught that when we do good things, we should keep quiet about it. And as a result, we only hear about and see the negative everywhere we look. Why not change this? Why not speak about the good we do and inspire others to do the same?
I’ll start. When we lived in San Diego, we were donating $100 monthly, for years to the food bank. $100 could be nothing or a lot for you but this is not the point. We chose to help others as a way to count our blessings.
Why am I feeling uncomfortable sharing this? It’s not a shameful thing and yet I can’t help but feel strange talking about it. But I want to share it so you know that there are many like us. There are many that do good and even change people’ lives and no one talks about it. I encourage you to please speak about your good deeds, let’s bring more goodness into our world!
I believe there are many people who want to do good. And I believe many of them don’t know where or how to begin.
Why not become an inspiration for people and brag, yes, brag about the good things you do. Whether you donate to a food bank or someone in need, provide some helpful information for someone, pay for someone’s coffee, allow a person in a rush to checkout before you or, give a helping hand to an overwhelmed mom. All these take very little time and/or resources from you but make a world of difference for others. You can start small or go big, pay it forward, it’s up to you.
What good things have you done? Brag about it in the comments and share with others, please. It’s up to each and every one of us to make a positive change!
Until next time.
