A surprisingly good dress from Walmart and other finds

I’ve said it before — I’m not really after brand names. I buy what I like no matter the name on the tag. What I do look for when shopping among other things, are cut/style, quality, and fabric.

I find shopping online difficult for these reasons. I like to see the piece and feel the fabric before buying. And I do not like to return things so I never shop with that intention.

With that said, we were at Walmart this past weekend (I was looking for a small and lightweight vacuum), and I happened to pass by the clothing section when this beautiful eyelet dress caught my eye. I went over to take a closer look and as soon as I touched it, I immediately grabbed the only red one left — an XS. I tried it on — it fit perfectly, and it came home with me.

I’m not sure why many seem to be avoiding the color red. I love it — it’s my favorite color after blue. Yet, I can’t find much red out there (in a style I like or that is not Christmasy-looking). The color choices for this particular dress were white, black, and red, so I went for red. And the pockets, ha-ha.

This dress feels like wearing a feather — the fabric is light, soft, and breathable! Despite sizing down, it does not feel restrictive at all. Speaking of sizing, it does run big, so choose the one size down when ordering.

I will note that the only “flaw” this dress has is the straps falling down — it seems it’s made after someone with big shoulders. So, to prevent them from falling, I recommend securing the straps with fashion tape.

Overall, I am impressed with the quality of this dress — it’s beautiful and just what one needs for spring and summer days spent outside. Another plus: it can be dressed up or down for a casual or more elevated look.

Outfit details: dress; espadrilles; sunglasses; belt; bag (please note that I do not recommend the other sellers on Amazon — I bought it from the brand as the seller and had no issues — currently sold out). I did find this bag on Etsy here, and similar here if you’re interested.

I tried wearing it with this belt, but I prefer the look without it — I might have just chosen the wrong belt for this dress. Note about the belt: it’s reversible and I have it in two colors: white/navy and brown/black.
